Scambler Modifications

As I mentioned in my previous post, I'm not a fan of the long rear mudguard on the Scrambler Classic. I know, most people hate the hugger on the other Scrambler variants but I actually really like it, especially with a small number plate on it.

The standard rear fender or mudguard is available in "ice" which is the perfect colour to match the aluminium version that I'm removing.

I managed to pick up a used but perfect condition hugger with plate mount and fixings on eBay for a really good price.

You can see how much shorter and neater the smaller fender is. It makes the rear of the bike way better looking in my opinion.

Removing the old number plate mount and fender was a much more involving and difficult task than I had expected. It took me some time to get everything off and the number plate lamp rerouted to where it would need to be for the hugger.

Here's a before and after, I really like it.

I'd ordered a small pressed metal numberplate from EJ-PARTS.co.uk - I've used them before and the prices are great and the plates turn up really quickly.,

The plate is their 6.5 x 6.5 Motorcycle Pressed Novelty Plate, available here - it's close to the same width of the rear tyre so looks great in my opinion. This is not a legal plate in the UK so I am taking my chances a little but it's the correct font, it's yellow and it's not teeny tiny so hopefully...

When fitting the new parts, I realised that there's an additional mount that fits on the swingarm and provides another point to secure the hugger.

The hugger is perfectly secure without it but as it's designed to be there, I've ordered the part.

Once it arrives it'll be a quick job to add this to the bike with a little thread lock.

Overall I'm really happy with the way the bike looks now, I could've left it as it was but every time I looked at the bike from the back I just didn't like it. I know that most people would think I'm mad but we all like what we like.

This was quite an expensive job to do in the end, I had to order the fender from Ducati so that was expensive, the additional bracket was also ordered from Ducati so was pretty expensive as well. The hugger itself wasn't too bad but still not cheap. I'm glad I've done the job though, I'll just have to try not to think about the cost.
